UtterLink is a Shopify app that converts long product and collection URLs into short, speakable links. This page explains what data UtterLink collects when a merchant installs it, why, and what it never touches.

What UtterLink stores

• Your shop domain
• The OAuth access token Shopify issues when you install the app, used to create and manage redirects on your behalf
• The product and collection URLs you choose to shorten, and the short links UtterLink creates for them
• The Shopify redirect IDs for links UtterLink has created, so we can look them up and manage them
• Usage counters, such as how many links you've created, to enforce plan limits

What gets sent to generate suggestions

To suggest short, speakable link names, UtterLink sends the product or collection's title, description, and tags to OpenAI's API. This never includes customer data, order data, pricing, or any personal information — only the public catalog content needed to write a good link.

What UtterLink never stores

• Customer data
• Order data
• Product prices or inventory levels
• Personal information of any kind
• Your store's storefront password
• Payment information

Redirects after uninstall

Links UtterLink creates are native Shopify URL redirects, stored directly in your store's own infrastructure — not in a database UtterLink controls. If you uninstall UtterLink, the redirects you've already published keep working. UtterLink cannot remove them after uninstall, because Shopify revokes app access before that would be possible — this is by design, so your links are never held hostage to keeping the app installed.

Data retention

Link records are retained for 90 days after you uninstall UtterLink, so your link history is restored automatically if you reinstall within that window. Session credentials — the OAuth access token — are deleted immediately when the app is uninstalled, regardless of the 90-day window.

Your rights

You can request a copy of the data UtterLink holds for your store, or request its deletion, by contacting us below. If you uninstall the app, no further data is collected.
